Spring Fling ‘24!

Hello, dear reader!

It's been a minute since I've updated this blog (so sorry! I do want to be better about that), but I dusted her off for a very special occasion: Kaitlyn Sanchez and Ciara O'Neal’s annual Spring Fling writing contest!

The prompt: Find a spring-themed GIF that speaks to you and write a story about it.

Easy enough, eh?

Hah!

I actually found it to be quite the challenge — but a wonderful one! After a very busy few months, I was so excited to have a reason to sit down and write something new. And about one of my favorite times of the year!

And so, without further ado, my entry for the 2024 Spring Fling — THE WILDFLOWER BALLET.

THE WILDFLOWER BALLET
By: Rose Marie Walano
Word Count: 145

Rosebud looked up at the darkening skies.

"Places, petals!" Miss Lily announced.

All the flowers stretched their stems —  except Rosebud.

She stayed tucked behind the nearest hedge, her foot tap-tap-tapping.

Miss Lily raised her longest leaf.

A gust blew through the glen — and the waltz began!

Pansies pirouetted while primroses pliéed.

Tulips tendued while snowdrops sautéed.

Bluebells balancéed and camellias coupéed.

All, drenched in dewdrops, dazzled.

Every woodland creature watched as the wind picked up, swirling the snapdragons, twirling the trillium, and jumping the jasmine, higher and higher!

Then—

Rooooooooooar! came a rumble from the skies.

Rosebud's cue.

And debut!

With a deep breath, she jetéed into the center of the glen and spun, 'round and 'round — a shimmering star at the center of the storm.

Would she land?

FLASH!

CRACK!

Yes!

A curtsy.

And then…

The skies opened.

A spring shower of praise.

Fin!
